2009 might be remembered as the year our movement began feeling the economic crisis. Reports portrayed a smaller, less agile philanthropic sector. Organizations that serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) communities were left with hard choices; most contracted, some closed their doors.

For Funders for LGBTQ Issues, the harsh conditions of 2009 compelled us to strengthen our unique role in convening funders, producing reliable research and building the resources necessary for effective LGBTQ grantmaking.
