The Think Tank Era: Research, Advocacy, and Strategy for LGBTQ Social Change: A Teleconference for Grantmakers

Organizer(s): Funders for Lesbian and Gay Issues

May 17, 2007
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM ET

Description:

Think tanks have played a critical role in the U.S. political and cultural landscape, combining research, policy analysis and strategic communications to advance domestic and foreign policy. Across issues, ideologies, and partisanship, think tanks have shaped the policy discourse for LGBTQ communities, notably along the lines of sexuality, race, gender and economics. Join a panel of researchers and policy thinkers to learn about the history of think tanks and discuss how progressive research institutes can continue advancing a public policy agenda for LGBTQ rights.

John Kowal, Director, Constitutional and Legal Policy, Open Society Institute

Jason Cianciotto, Research Director, National Gay and Lesbian Task Force; Phill Wilson, Executive Director, Black Aids Institute; Andre Banks, Director, Media & Public Affairs, Applied Research Center; and The Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law and Public Policy, UCLA School of Law
