Full Text:
Western States Center and Basic Rights Education Fund (BREF) have launched a collaborative project to lay a critical foundation for ongoing, long term alliance building, education and leadership development between and within the racial justice and the LGBT movement. We would like to extend an invitation to you to join us for a special introduction of our new tools for movement building that are a product of a decade-long collaboration between our two organizations – Uniting Communities: The Toolkit and Standing Together: Coming Out for Racial Justice.

During the analysis of the Proposition 8 fight in California, many funders and organizations began to ask what meaningful engagement between communities of color and LGBT communities would look like. We believe that Uniting Communities and Standing Together provided much needed tools for organizations within each movement to begin the internal dialogue and conversation that allow for true and deep engagement in one another's struggles.
