BACKGROUND
The Queer Youth Fund is a donor-initiated grantmaking program housed at the Liberty Hill Foundation that provides large, multi-year grants to groups addressing the multiple issues queer youth face as they come out and become involved in their communities. The donors make funding decisions with foundation staff and community representatives.
QUEER YOUTH FUND OVERVIEW
The Queer Youth Fund makes multi-year grants to grassroots, local, state or national nonprofit organizations located anywhere in the United States working to improve the quality of life among gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning (GLBTQQ) youth. Youth are defined as 24 years old and younger. The Queer Youth Fund awards grants to innovative and effective leadership development programs or organizing projects that empower GLBTQQ youth to improve societal conditions affecting GLBTQQ youth and that make a long-term difference to their movement.
GRANT DETAILS
Up to four $100,000 grants will be made to different 501(c)3 organizations (or groups with fiscal sponsors) with specific work that matches the guidelines. The $100,000 grants are payable over three to five years. Eligible organizations must have a total budget for their youth work of $750,000 or less.
The first year request should be between $20,000 and $35,000. Funding in the second and succeeding years is conditional on the grantee’s compliance with reporting requirements, continued progress toward meeting stated goals and objectives, and demonstrated impact of activities.
Groups which have been previously funded by the Queer Youth Fund are ineligible for another Queer Youth Fund grant. However, joint ventures or collaborations between prior grantees and other organizations will be considered.
The Queer Youth Fund is made possible through the generous support of donors. Every effort will be expended to make sure the donors fulfill their pledges to the Queer Youth Fund. In the unlikely event of a default on a pledge the proportionate loss of grant money will be shared equally by all grantees.
