IT NEVER LOOKED SO GOOD:
Community Organizing in LGBTQ Communities
JUNE 17, 2009, 3PM-4:30PM EASTERN TIME
Today's Community Organizing field encompasses varied philosophies, approaches, organizational arrangements, actors, priorities, issues and constituencies. CO has taken root in both urban and rural settings. It enables ordinary people to work effectively together for change, often with significant impact at the block, neighborhood, community, city, county, regional, and, at times, state and national levels. Various racial and ethnic groups, and other disadvantaged or disenfranchised groups, use CO to fight for fairness and equity.

Join Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice, Funders for Lesbian and Gay Issues, GrantCraft, The Linchpin Campaign of the Center for Community Change and The Neighborhood Funders Group for a lively and educational conversation about community organizing in LGBTQ communities.
Throughout the U.S. and globally, LGBTQ people are organizing for their rights across a range of issues, including legal protections in employment and housing (and others), transgender rights, marriage equality, parenting rights, immigration rights and many others.
And in an Obama era, the value of community organizing has finally caught on: The New York Times recently exclaimed, "Community organizing never looked so good."
Join us for a teleconference on LGBTQ community organizing models, new ways of base building, and the related successes and challenges in building democracy through organizing.
If you are funding social change/organizing and want to explore ways to expand your funding to include LGBTQ issues, or if you already fund LGBTQ issues and would like to hear more about how to support organizing as a strategy, this conversation is for you.

Katherine Acey, Executive Director, Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice (moderator)
Marjorie Fine, Program Director, The Linchpin Campaign
