Using the LGBTQ Funders Directory

The LGBTQ Funders Directory is a guide for researching potential funding sources.

Grantseekers should pay attention to the specific requirements and qualifications for each funding source.

Once potential funders have been identified, they should be contacted for the appropriate application information. If the funder's web site is listed, you should visit its web site to learn more about its grantmaking programs.

This directory is searchable by: the name of the fund or foundation, the geographic area eligible for funding, funding priorities, and types of grants offered.

A limited number of scholarships and fellowships are available for LGBTQ students and those who are pursuing LGBT studies. Information on these scholarships and fellowships appears, if available, along with the grants profile of each record. To receive a list of only those funders who offer scholarships, check the Show Scholarships/Fellowships box at the bottom of the main search page (under the Grant Types category).

Each listing in this directory contains the foundation name, address, contact person, phone number, fax number, e-mail (if available) and web site (if available), as well as the following information:

Funding Priorities
Indicates specific interest areas of the funder.

Grant Types
Specifies the kinds of support a funder provides.

Limitations
Notes the areas a foundation will NOT fund.

Area
Highlights the geographic area within which a funder will support a project or organization; a listing of "National" in this category in the Funders by state section indicates the funder will support programs anywhere in the United States, and/or will support organizations with a national (rather than state or local) focus.

How to Apply
Offers the most appropriate method for seeking funding.

Average Grant
Lists the average dollar amount of grants given by the funder.

"NA"
Indicates that the information is not available.
